Microsoft has updated their authentication protocols to no longer include basic authentication for their email effective October 1, 2022.

What does that mean to Infor CRM users? Not much as Infor uses SMTP which is not changing.   But it will impact companies using KnowledgeSync and Office 365 and to continue to authenticate with the Office 365 all KnowledgeSync users will need to upgrade to the newest v10.5 to continue to use the integration with the Infor CRM under the new protocol requirements.

Here is the article from KnowledgeSync on the authentication change

Deprecation of Basic Authentication in Exchange Online Affects KnowledgeSync On-Premise

Contact Simplesoft for additional information or to request an upgrade to your KnowledgeSync!

The full article from Microsoft can be found here.

Basic Authentication Deprecation in Exchange Online – September 2022 Update – Microsoft Community Hub

If your company is not ready to make that change due to potential impact on software other than Office 365 then you have a small reprieve as they are allowing a on-time protocol rollback that will allow basic authentication until Dec 31, 2022.  After that date, ALL basic authentication for the Office 365 (Exchange Online) will be blocked completely with no rollback.  You can find the temporary configuration steps in the article above.

The long awaited v8.5.0.01 release is now available!   This release has many updates that include new Application Architect 64 bit application, Mail Merge functionality added back to the browser for emailing, calculated field handling, and many others.

For a full list of all the updates and fixes click below:

Whats New: What’s New PDF

Resolved Issues:  Resolved Issues PDF

In general, the update for v8.5.0 carries the improvements we needed to see for the base version of 8.5.0 released in 2021.

WEB CLIENT UPDATES

Downloading and installing the Word and mail merge integration is available in the Tools> Options menu in the web client.

Mail merge – in any browser (Email only).  The Word add-in is still required for letter or print mail merge.  The process for creating the new browser templates directly mirrors the CRM Workflow email template formatting and creation.  (Start by typing @ for mentions…)

  • All common browsers are now mail merge compatible for emails, which includes Edge, Chrome, and Firefox.  (The requirement for Internet Explorer has been removed.)
  • You will be able to utilize mapped fields throughout the CRM system and incorporate them into the template as needed for both types of templates.
  • You can now perform a mail merge with contacts associated with sales orders, quotes, contracts, returns, and tickets in addition to accounts and opportunities.
  • All supported browsers allow the completion of mail merge steps within a sales process.

DEVELOPMENT UPDATES

They did update development features further to support the Upgrade Safe Customization road map.   Application Architect now includes a Manage Customizations view to allow development to review a list of files that have changed or are out of sync with recent Infor CRM SLX updates.

Application Architect is now a 64 bit application to allow for better volume handling for development.  What exactly does this mean?  Well for one, the general build and deploy time to complete is SUBSTANTIALLY reduced!  This also includes a fix for the SLX Client portal deployment error that displayed an Out of Memory error. For that one we are grateful, it was not a show stopper but very annoying for the developer.

Here are some of the development highlights that developers would be interested in:

Local file system versus Virtual file systems: Managing your changes in a Local File System still carries some workarounds that you must stay aware of.  See the full documentation for the steps to utilize this method.
Project backups: Currently, you can only restore the Infor project backups from v8.4.0 and v8.5.0.  So be sure to keep your customization bundles versioned off and clean.  That will be the only way you can restore any failed (or corrupted) changes if you need to rollback.  Infor has discussed bringing back the project backup capabilities but as of this release, that is not the case.
Project Difference Manifest deprecated
Importing from another project deprecated

Overall the User interface is unchanged except for a slight re-branding on the naming that was changed to Infor CRM SLX and bringing the email for mail merge back to the browser.  But the difference is more substantial on the development and management of the development.  This new update has solidified the upgrade-safe development into a cohesive software that allows a layered approach to the development where you can choose to release the new forms or keep your customized ones in front of the user.

That’s right! Mail merge is now available in a way that eliminates the browser restriction

Infor has released an answer to the mail merge issue that has plagued the software since Microsoft announced the retiring of Internet Explorer.  Previously if you needed to use the web mail merge function in the CRM you were restricted to Internet Explorer and 32 bit Office.   NOW with this new release, not only is 64 bit Office compatible but it is no longer browser isolated!

Compatibility is listed with Office 2016 and 2019 (Office 365), but we also tested on Office 2013 and it worked as expected.  This new functionality is appropriate for Infor CRM Web Client version 8.3.0.0 and later.

This new mail merge function is installed as an add-in to Microsoft Word and it adds additional settings to the Mailing ribbon in the Word application.  Configuration is remarkably similar to the XBar and merely requires the SData portal and a user log in.

Templates created from an earlier version will need to be converted and if you are adding a table to display multiple items we recommend re-creating the template in the new function rather than adding a table to the converted template.  We have had some issues with adding tables but the adding fields works fine in a converted template. A new template created in the new function works great when adding a merge table.

Converting…

You can still map fields from the CRM, associate specific user information for a signature, and generate the layout that you have used in the past.

Send the information to a single person based on a specific record, or merge to a whole group.  Regular dynamic groups and Ad-hoc groups are available.

Want to send it out as email or print a letter or create a document, no problem!  It also still creates a history record and an activity follow-up in CRM if you wish.

Some configuration items to consider to allow the CRM and Office Outlook to work together for mail merge:
When the two programs wish to work together you may get a window asking you to allow or deny access to the Office program when you run the mail merge.  This form will pop-up for EACH email that you are trying to send!  There is a way to allow the two programs to work together in the Office Trust Center permanently.

To do this, in Outlook open File > Options > Trust Center> Trust Center Settings button, Then programmatic Access > Mark the ‘Never Warn me about suspicious activity’ radio button.
*There may be caveats to this permission depending on your company policy.

If you are interested in this add-in to Word or have questions please let us know and we will be glad to help.

Breaking changes in this version when upgrading:

  2. All upgrades must include converting an ANSI database to a Unicode database. The converted database will be approximately double the size of the existing database and the tool to convert the database is included in the software but requires three times the size of the existing database to be able to run correctly.
  3. Online help must now be accessed from Infor’s Docs.infor.com site. It is no longer possible to install customized help in your local environment.
  4. Outlook Integration and Outlook Sync are now provided with Infor CRM Xbar and must be downloaded separately from Infor CRM v8.4.

Comments Off on Infor CRM v8.4.0 Has Arrived

January 26th, 2018 by

A recent update from Microsoft has broken the mail merge capabilities for the Office version 365(click-to-run) build 16.0.8730.2046 and higher.  If you have a lower version of the 365 it will still allow mail merge capabilities. Recommendations at this stage are to revert to a lower version of Office or purchase and install the desktop Office 2016. We will update as a resolution is defined.

Errors we have seen in the client during a mail merge process in versions of Infor CRM v8.10 to 8.3.0.09.

1. Mail Merge does not complete for Office 365 build 16.0.8730.2046 with errors on SLXMMGUIW.map
Event Error text: “The map file ‘C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Saleslogix\SLXMMGUIW.map” could not be found.

2. Addition error has come up as a message popup in the client: ‘The result for 1 queries was expected, but no data was returned. There may have been more than 1 HTTP data request active at the same time. The SQL syntax may also be incorrect.’

What we have found in our investigations with Infor Support and development is that the registry items for the Office 365 (click-to-run) have changed and Infor development has to define a new way to interact with this software. Infor is not the only software that is impacted by this intentional ‘break’. We recommend that if you have not currently migrated to the Office 365, don’t. According to Inside information(Microsoft contacts), this change by Microsoft is a ‘planned’ break and the potential for future issues is very high. We recommend purchasing the full Office 2016 product as that is a full install and download and not governed by Microsoft automatic updates and does not have cloud software limitations and control.

We recommend and encourage you to review the update documents to keep abreast of all defects and issues that have been corrected.  Contact Simplesoft Solutions to discuss an upgrade for Infor CRM(Saleslogix), and to review any new features or updates with your version of Infor CRM(Saleslogix).

If you would like to discuss upgrading your system, or to see a free demonstration, please contact Simplesoft Solutions.

June 21st, 2016 by

Unger_Teri With the advent of new job handling procedures starting in v8.0.0, Infor introduced the Job Services.  The Infor CRM Job Server is used for a number of purposes in the CRM environment, including generating Crystal reports, automating the rollover of past-due activities, performing bulk deletions and record updates, and synchronization of information between CRM and other applications such as Outlook.

Infor has published an article on troubleshooting this service and as critical a piece of the puzzle that this function is becoming, we felt it prudent to make sure that everyone had access  to this information.  View KB 1579625 – Troubleshooting the Infor CRM Job Services below.

KB 1579625  Troubleshooting the Infor CRM Job Service   https://www.inforxtreme.comSolution1579625  (login required)

General Job Server configuration settings

  1. Ensure that the actual executable (SLXJobServer.exe) has been upgraded to 8.1.
  2. Port 1895 must be open for inbound and outbound traffic on the server hosting the Job Server executable as well as the web servers.
  3. SData must be deployed, configured, and functional in order for the Job Service (and thereby the Web Client) to operate properly.
  4. Map the WebDLL user to the Saleslogix Admin user in Administrator. Double-check that the WebDLL user is properly configured on the web servers and the job server itself – proper permissions and local server rights, etc.
  5. Ensure that the Use Windows Authentication box is checked in Admin > Tools > Options > Passwords
  6. Ensure that in IIS under Authentication for both SLXClient and SData that Anonymous is configured as the same user for the Application Pool (default is WebDLL)
  7. Set the SalesLogix Job Service to log on as WebDLL.
  8. Deploy the SLXJobService portal from within Application Architect. Note that if this is an upgrade they will have to manually add the portal to the Core Portals deployment; this is a mandatory step, as the SLXJobService is no longer an optional component for web environments. Also note the path to which the portal is deployed.
  9. On the server hosting the SalesLogix Job Service, locate the SLXJobServer.exe.config file. Verify that the sage.scheduling.server.tenantRoot value matches the path to which the portal was deployed in step 6.
  10. On each web server, locate the web.config file for the SData portal. In the Sage.Integration.WebAdapters section of the file, ensure that there is an entry for Sage.Platform.Scheduling.SData.Adapter.
  11. On each web server, locate the appSettings.config file for the SData portal. In the Sage.Scheduling.Client.serverURL section, edit the URL from ‘localhost’ to the server name of the server hosting the actual job service.
  12. On each web server, locate the appSettings.config file for the SlxClient portal. Repeat step 9 for this file.
  13. If the Job Server service is installed on a separate server from the SData portal, you will need to run the standard SetSPN steps (as though enabling Windows authentication) on the server hosting the Job Server service.
    • Setspn –A http/SERVER.DOMAIN DOMAIN\SERVICEUSER
    • Setspn –A http/SERVER DOMAIN\SERVICEUSER
  14. If you keep getting an error with an invalid http request, go to the tenant.config file found under ..\Sage\Scheduling\Tenants\SlxJobService make sure the address under <servers> is set as follows:      <add address=”localhost” port=”11211″ />     (the local loopback to 127.0.0.1 may be blocked)
  15. Perform an IISRESET
  16. Attempt to start the SalesLogix Job Service.

Executing the Job Service via command console

The SalesLogix Job Server can be run via command line, which outputs a great deal more information than is visible within the Web Client. This can be useful for gathering data for troubleshooting.

  1. In Windows Services, stop the SalesLogix Job Service.
  2. In Task Manager, end the exeprocess if necessary.
  3. Open a command prompt as administrator.
  4. At the command prompt, change directory to the SLXJobServer.exe location.
    Example: cd C:\Program Files (x86)\SalesLogix\
  5. Type the following command:
    SLXJobServer.exe
  6. The Job Service will begin to output information related to any running jobs. At this point, log into the Web Client and execute the failing job.

This can result in a large output of data. To make this easier to capture, output the console information to a file. To to this in step 6, use the following command instead:

SLXJobServer.exe >> c:\SLXJobServer.txt

The text of the command console will be output to this file. Using the >> argument will cause new additions to append to the existing SLXJobServer.txt file.

Enabling Debug-level logging for the Job Server

The Job Server can be set to capture debug-level logging. To enable debug logging:

  1. In Windows Services, stop the SalesLogix Job Service.
  2. In Task Manager, end the exeprocess if necessary.
  3. Navigate to the install location for the Job Server.
    Example: C:\Program Files (x86)\SalesLogix\
  4. Locate and open exe.config.
  5. In the <log4net> section of the config file, locate the following line:<threshold value=”WARN” />
  6. Edit the value here to DEBUG:<threshold value=”DEBUG” />
  7. Save the changes to the config file.
  8. Restart the Job Service.
  9. Attempt to execute the failing job. Debug-level information will be output to the Event Viewer.

Note: This can cause the generation of a large volume of data; debug logging should not be enabled for long periods of time.
