Infor hosted a customer focused webinar  to summarize their excellent work with Infor CRM in 2016. Kevin Draggoo, Product Manager for Infor CRM, shared new functionality for each of the areas of Infor CRM and explained that 262 customer requests for features were included in this year’s work so far. Customer and partner input is very important to Infor CRM and it shows in the priority placed on feature requests made by customers. Kevin provided detailed information about all the improvements made in Web, Mobile, Xbar, Dashboards, along with Ming.le.

Included in the most recent service pack (04) of Infor CRM is Contour. Infor CRM Contour is a proximity search and mapping tool. This tool will allow sales and service users to maximize their time on the road. They can search an area for surrounding prospects and customers then map the most efficient travel routes.

Infor CRM Contour - Proximity and Mapping Tool

Infor CRM Web includes the new and more robust Entity Manager which allows the administrative user to add fields, filters, and metrics to any entity. It can also be used for bulk updates and imports. More and more functionality is being brought into the Web for the admin users including Ticket ACI control, and password complexity just to mention a few.

Mobile v3.5 was released early in November and it includes Offline capability with the concept of a Briefcase. You commit the items you need while offline to your Briefcase. The current functionality is read only and the next phase will include read/write ability. There are also several UI enhancements. A special note to current customers, Mobile v3.5 requires v8.2 or higher of Infor CRM.

Infor CRM Mobile can be upgraded apart from the core software which makes it a no brainer to give your sales folks the newest Mobile.  I must now give you the technical footnotes of upgrading to Mobile v3.4.0:

  • Ensure the version of Saleslogix or Infor CRM installed is 8.0 or later and that it has a functioning Web environment.
  • (This is required even if your Saleslogix or Infor CRM implementation is Windows Client only.) See the Implementation Guide for your installed version of Infor CRM / Saleslogix for information on setting up a functioning Web environment.
  • Ensure the version of Mobile client already installed is 11R1, 1.1, or later. In 11R1, 1.1, and later, users access the Mobile Client from a browser not from an application installed on the device.

If you need help upgrading to Infor CRM v8.3.0 or Mobile 3.4.0, let us know! We can assist in a minor capacity or provide all the technical heavy lifting.

Paul Hansford from Simplesoft Solutions traveled to Boston April 14th – 16th to participate in a professional panel with 10 people from across the US. This group was selected through their work in the data industry and was chartered to build an occupational profile for a middle-skilled Big Data specialist. The group was led by the Oceans of Data Institute of the Education Development Center, Inc. (EDI) and their work was observed by Community College professors. This event was supported through funding from the National Science Foundation. The outcome was a drafted occupational profile that describes the specific skills, knowledge, and behaviors needed to compete in a data-centered economy.  The next step in the process will be reaching out to peers to have them review the work that was completed to check for gaps and/or improvements.

All of this work is very similar to a previous profile (see below) designed for the tasks involved with the work of a data scientist role.

http://oceansofdata.org/our-work/profile-big-data-enabled-specialist

The projected quantity of data is growing each year and the clique that data is “everywhere” in a sense is true.  There is a strong need to promote data literacy and incorporate data-driven thinking into our daily lives.  Our economy is increasingly defined by data as is our knowledge and skills for using it effectively.  Our stakeholders and customers are demanding an increase in results that help make sense of the data in place. Simplesoft was pleased to be able to contribute to the larger picture by having a tenured consultant like Paul share his data expertise. Paul has a unique set of skills to lend to this project with his 20 years of data consulting expertise and his more recent experience teaching at the collegiate level.

Paul was energized by his participation in this valuable work and commented, “It was a real honor to contribute to the work in the world of data and databases. Organizations of all kinds are looking for data to help them transform their business model and increase productivity.  I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this highly important discussion.”  Simplesoft has highly skilled data specialists with a range of experience in system integration, business intelligence, CRM, and marketing automation tools.  We are looking forward to seeing the finished work.

April 12th, 2016 by

Our own Paul Hansford was nominated by a professor at Sinclair Community College for a Big Data Career panel in Boston.  Paul will represent Simplesoft Solutions as an SME (Subject Matter Expert) to work with Oceans of Data Institute (ODI) of the Education Development Center, Inc.(EDC). Paul along with other panelists will help build an occupational profile of the Middle Skilled Big Data Specialist. Paul will travel to Boston April 14th-16th to share his twenty years of industry knowledge in the panel discussions.

Paul will be joined by colleagues from the following schools: Bunker Hill Community College (MA), Normandale Community College (MN), Johnson County Community College (KS) and Sinclair Community College (OH). The other panels will help define big data careers and the qualifications needed per career such as certifications and degrees. The colleges can then determine the appropriate fit based on their regional employment needs.  This work will allow the colleges to develop curriculum for their schools to match the career profiles developed. To read more about this project you can visit the ODI website.

Paul reflected on this upcoming event, “It is very exciting to be involved in a project where my profession as a Senior Business Technology Consultant and my love for teaching collide. I have provided consulting expertise to customers both to improve their data quality and share the skills into those roles defined as Data Stewards and business administration. A project of this nature has tremendous value to our clients as they begin to hire data specialists trained through the college structure in the future.”  We are looking forward to hearing the results of the conference and how the results will benefit our customers and our region through Sinclair Community College.

Teri Unger will be conducting quarterly web training sessions for Infor CRM Technical Administrators called Tips, Tricks, and Tools. This blog article chronicles one of her tips from the February session. She created this summary, Teri’s Tips,Trick, and Tools – February Session for your reference. Plan to attend the May session by registering here.

TIP: Default Groups

Applies to: New or existing users

Platform: Web/LAN

Benefit: All detail pages (entities) in LAN or WEB build based on a group.  When entities have defined groups that are SMALLER in record count this significantly decreases the page load speed since a smaller set of records has to be loaded before the page can display.

Notes: Always set the groups to a smaller set, like a MY group or latest.  The ‘ALL’ groups should be avoided.

The main considerations for most users will be Account, Contact, Opportunity, Lead, and Ticket.

All users, including admin, should have entity groups defined.

Users can set their own in Tools > Options > Lookups & Groups. Admin can set groups in the Administrator program under each user profile.

LAN user:

WEB user:

Caveat: web users MUST set their own default groups as it is stored in a web configuration file within the web client.  This means that the settings are LOGGED-IN user specific. Notice that the default for a new user comes in with the ‘ALL’ group selected.  This NEEDS to be changed!

ADMINISTRATOR user profile:

Open a user profile > Client Settings tab

These settings ONLY apply to a LAN user.

Customers and Infor Partners alike attended a demonstration of Infor CRM v8.3 yesterday. Kevin Draggoo, Infor CRM Product Manager, announced the March release date of Infor CRM v8.3. He estimated March 18th but committed to the end of March. This version is packed with new features. Being a long time trainer of Saleslogix (Infor CRM) I get to hear feature requests first hand and some of the new enhancements in v8.3 have been on customer’s wish lists for many years. I thought I would provide a quick review for those who didn’t get to attend:

Import Engine – Infor CRM v8.3 provides the ability to import into Tickets, Accounts, Contacts, Leads, Users, Lead Sources, Opportunities, and Products. It will also contain the ability to do Bulk Updates to records. The fields are configurable through the Web Admin for each of the tables mentioned above. This has been a highly requested feature.

Notes/History Preview – The Notes/History tab will now display multiple lines of History with the details moved below the item rather than on the right side. It will preview 256 characters of text from the history record below the detail, with an option to ‘Show More…’ and see additional content. There will also be a Show/Hide feature.

Sales Orders and Quotes – Quotes have been separated from Sales Orders and are now their own entity. This was done to further connect CRM to ERP Back Office Integration. The Quote to Cash Cycle now includes Opportunity, Quote, Create Proposal, and Promote to Sales Order.

Back Office Extension – The Back Office Extension for ERP Integration is now a part of the core Infor CRM solution. The two-way integration includes Account/Contact, Ship To, Pay From, and Bill To. All two-way integrations will go through a certification process by the Infor ERP business groups.

Mobile – Mobile v3.4 will be released for v8.3 and will not be backwards compatible with other versions of Infor CRM. Offline Access is a huge benefit of this release of Mobile. It will also include the Quote to Order cycle with workflow for promoting items to ERP.

Xbar – Xbar v1.3 includes single install for Outlook Integration and Xbar. You can now associate Tickets and Opportunities to Activities. You can now complete an appointment in Outlook along with accessing details from Calendar items.

Performance Gains and Compatibility – Infor and Customer testing showing 85% faster view loads than v8.1 and most pages are loading in half the time of v8.1. Kevin from Infor said the speed was reflective of Saleslogix v7.54 days. Infor CRM v8.3 is also compatible with Windows 10, Microsoft 2016, and Windows 10 Edge Browser.

Web Admin – Even more admin functions have been moved from the LAN Administrator to the Web. This version includes things like Licenses, Customer Service Defaults, and Ticket and Defect Activity Rates.

Finally, the dates and location for Inforum 2016 were announced. Inforum 2016 will be in NYC from July 10 – 13th. You can register at Inforum2016.com and get early, early bird special which ends on March 24th.

Comments Off on Infor CRM v8.3 Scheduled for March – Exciting New Features Unveiled

“Necessity is the Mother of all Invention.” – Albert Einstein
This short post is an example of the quote above.  We had a need to create a company Marketing Calendar in Infor CRM so everyone on our team would know when Web Training Events and Public Demos were scheduled so they could mention on the phone during their interactions.   We decided to setup a new Infor CRM User called “Marketing.” Setting Up a “Marketing User” allowed us to create activities such as Training or Demo events logged in as this Marketing user.  Other Infor CRM Users can see these Marketing Activities by viewing the Marketing Users’ calendar. Alternatively, if you want all your users to be aware of the events you can add “Everyone” as a member of the activity when it is scheduled. Your decision on how to make the Marketing events viewable to your users would depend on your environment and the necessity of your users to be aware of the events.

The Infor CRM (Saleslogix) product roadmap included integration with Infor ERP solutions shortly after the purchase in September 2014. Who would have guessed it would take ONLY six short months to deliver! Infor revealed the first phase of the integration work at the Americas Partner Summit in San Antonio in early February.

The integration will be rolled out in three planned phases. The first phase will be one way integration from ERP to CRM for five of Infor’s ERP solutions. The five solutions included in the first phase are A+, LN, LX, SXe, and Syteline. The second phase will extend the integration to additional ERP solutions and provide two way integration with the main entities. The third phase will extend the two way integration to additional entities along with Ming.le which is Infor’s collaboration tool. All of this integration is made possible through ION which is Infor’s integration services suite.

Let’s take a look at the incredible amount of information coming in to Infor CRM in this first phase with the Info Roadmap.

There are eight new views and four modified views in this first phase.  The new views included are ION configuration, Bill To, Ship To, Pay From, Invoice, Receivables, Shipments, and Person. The modified user interface views are Account, Contact, Sales Order/Quote, and Return.

Here are some examples of some modified areas:

Account Detail View with New Tabs

Invoice Detail – New User Interface View

According to Aberdeen’s Customer-Centric ERP Integrated System for Customer Satisfaction, businesses with integrated CRM and ERP experience better results. See some of the statistics from the whitepaper below.  You can download the full document here.

We are currently waiting on the official release date for the Infor CRM bundles. Any customers who currently have an Infor ERP solution and would like to discuss the integration with Infor CRM, please contact Simplesoft at sales@simplesoft.net. You can review a demonstration of the integration in this recorded webinar by Infor entitled “1 + 1 = 3. The ERP and CRM Equation.” Note: The demonstration begins at about 16 minutes into the webinar.

Remember to check our CALENDAR and register for free training, demo sessions, and the Heartland Users Group Events.
